Helen of Troy in four earth tones

Helen of Troy

Paros is an artist's heaven combining the light and air of Greece with all the subjects you can picture and then some.  This workshop involves painting in different locations about the island each morning.  Afternoons will include more painting and time to enjoy the numerous Paros beaches; evenings will be a mix of group discussions, dinner parties, socializing with island artists and free time.

Plan ahead:  Let us know your preferred dates!

We have had a difficult time finding enough people for the same time period.  We can give a group discount for three or more people.

For one low package fee the Paros Portrait Workshop offers one week of lodging, transportation, and painting instruction.  Some meals are included; Greek fun and friendliness are free extras.  Transportation to Paros is not included but we can help you find the best flights.

Due to popular request we are adding an optional extra week to visit the major sites in Athens and the Greece mainland.  Take a look at Art & Antiquities

Accommodation is provided by Paros Hospitality at a traditional family run "pension" (small hotel) near the beach.  All the modern amenities emphasizing cleanliness and comfort combined with the charm of Paros, the island hopper's favourite.

From Victoria:

In this workshop we will learn to draw and paint the human face, by learning the correct proportions, in every position.  We will spend a small portion of the class, stimulating right brain activity; doing various drawing exercises, which will help you develop your powers of observation, and what I like to say, capturing the "soul" of the person.

I will demonstrate various painting techniques of the Old Masters, Imprimatura and the ancient Portraiture application of the 4 Earth tones, which can produce hundreds of subtle yet rich tones to your painting. I will encourage you to use your ability to imagine, to see with your minds eye, or just be inspired by what you see with the beautiful island of Paros as the background!  Each artist will be given personal attention, to attain their artistic vision! We will paint at inspiring and comfortable locations that will enhance and help you grow in your artistic path!

From childhood I have been fascinated with faces.  Since the 80's, after spending a year in Greece, the Greek Culture and Its Mythology has since been my Muse!

By combining the timeless culture of Greece with present day themes, I not only stay true to my sense of beauty, but also add the dimension of another culture to my paintings.

You can email Victoria with questions about her instructional methods at  Victoria Papale

Here is what just one of her students had to say.  Other student reviews will be sent with the particulars:

"I have had the privilege of studying portrait art under Victoria Papale, several times.  Her teaching encompasses so many areas of study and rendering.

Victoria opened up a new way of visualization, of thinking and of drawing that I can use, even without pencil or color!  And I do.  Her instruction of light and value and design became part of my thinking, because of the innovative ways she taught it!

Her critique became so important to me, I wanted to do better after each class.  Her expression of art threads into her teaching skills, and becomes more than a concept.  It is a pleasurable part of my daily life.  It's an honor to study under her!"
