Watercolour Painting on the Isle
of Paros, Greece
The air and light of Greece has attracted artists
for a longer time than any other place known to mankind.
Now you too can paint there at a surprisingly low cost.
Marianne Gabriel, watercolourist and instructor from Athens, Greece has teamed with Michael and Karin Shepherd, hoteliers of Paros, Greece, to offer superior instruction and hospitality in an incomparable setting. We will schedule this workshop for any group of 6 or more participants. Please email an enquiry with your possible dates to see if they match others.

Marianne, a painter and experienced tutor, will be teaching watercolour
techniques that allow the artist to complete several paintings on site. The
following themes will be tackled:
· Colours (colour theory, mixing, pigments, opacity, granulation etc.)
· Water (washes, glazing, wet on wet, wet on dry etc.)
· Light (and shade, one-colour painting)
· Space (composition, format, centre of interest etc)
· What colour is “white”?
· Look at a particular subject, visually memorise it and create your own painting
During one afternoon course she will instruct you how to use your own photos (and transcend them) to continue making vibrant paintings of Paros when you get back home.
Both beginners and advanced participants are welcome since individual attention will be adapted to the needs and personality of each student.
English, French and/or Greek speaking participants are welcome, but painting will be our common language.
Afternoons will include more painting and
time to enjoy the numerous Paros beaches; evenings will
be a mix of group discussions, dinner parties, socialising with island artists
and free time. There will be a maximum of 10 students to insure quality
instruction.
For one fee the Paros Workshop offers one week of lodging, food, transportation, and painting instruction. Greek fun and friendliness are free extras. Your transportation to Paros is your only additional cost.
Estimated cost: 795 Euro

Greece: A European country like no other. You cannot turn a corner without seeing remnants of the ancient civilization. Athens is a must see for anyone who wants to walk in the footsteps of Socrates.
The history of the Cyclades predates even that of Athens with the added attraction to artists of crisp air and brilliant colors. Included in this group are dramatic Santorini and posh Mykonos. Paros is the hospitable island with just the right proportions of culture, people, shops and other activities and an over generous supply of fine beaches with warm water and charming tavernas. Paros is a blending of the busy, touristy towns of Parikia and Naoussa with numerous small villages, our two favorites being Piso Livadi and Lefkas. We see Piso Livadi as an archetypical Mediterranean port. Lefkas is a traditional Greek hill village just off the main stream of tourism with natural nooks and crannies to catch the artist's eye. Quaint rural subjects abound.
Paros Hospitality accommodation has the
plain Cycladic architecture that you see everywhere; we offer the same clean
private bathrooms and balconies that you find elsewhere. The difference is
Michael & Karin's friendliness. They have traveled through-out the world and
have now settled on Paros. They know how to balance their guests' needs for
company and information with privacy and discovery.
